Truths of Constitution protect against elites on Astini News

September brings together two significant dates, 9/11 and Sept. 17, Constitution Day, which signify two keys to our future — patriotism and constitutional orthodoxy. After 9/11, Americans came together to support and defend our country (the definition of patriotism) as seldom before. On Sept. 17, 1787, mankind's most magnificent manifesto, the Constitution, became the law of the land. This year, 9/11 got splendid coverage, not so with 9/17. Why? The Constitution is, and has been, under attack by our elite.

We hear often of the great divide in America, usually defined as between liberals, mostly Democrats, and conservatives, mostly Republicans. The real division is between the elite and the uncommon common man (Jimmy Stewart's term).

By elite I don't mean wealth or excellence. It is an attitude. The elite I speak of are best defined as those who believe they were born with boots and spurs and the rest of us with saddles on our back. Power is their god, and they are sprinkled generously throughout our most influential forums — the classrooms, the courtrooms, the cloakrooms and the newsrooms.

They seldom are found in boardrooms, factories, farms, or veterans' cemeteries. There is little they would physically fight for. Traditional morality is outmoded, as is marriage, and toleration of evil is good. They can rationalize evil. Patriotism is hokey and the flag is a cloth, defecating on it (has happened) is protected speech, but prayer is not and the Ten Commandments are dangerous. Pornography is a "lyric" and terrorists are freedom fighters. The New York Times is their bible.

Many are from Ivy League schools, some sympathetic to socialism, even communism, but hostile to the military. They believe the Constitution should live and breathe their values and opinions; but forbid amendments by the people, promoting instead changes by their fellow travelers in the courts. (Don't ever play cards with these folks; they will change rules in the middle of a pot.)

The uncommon common Americans accept the fact that they may be rode hard and put away wet. In their ranks are those who have been fodder for the forces of freedom. Their sweat lubricates the machinery of America, and their blood nourishes the tree of liberty. Uncommon common Americans fill veterans' cemeteries.

They love peace but will fight. They know there are worse things than war, and they all come with defeat. God is their supreme good. The Bible is their Bible. They cannot rationalize evil. They believe the Founding Fathers meant what they wrote in the Constitution and that only the people should amend it. They love patriotism.

The Supreme Court, our constitutional guardians, is not made up of common Americans. One past member said that the Constitution is what they say it is. They all attended Harvard or Yale. Only one is from the West. Not one of them has had a military or business experience. Too many are elites totally ignorant of everyday America.

Abraham Lincoln said: "Don't interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties." A book could not cover elites' interferences with our Constitution and how they have damaged our country.

Some believe America needs to be re-moralized. True, but we need also to be re-constitutionalized. We cannot survive without increasing patriotism, a youth schooled in the Constitution. If the uncommon common American is to prevail against the elite, we need to return to the truths of our Constitution. More attention to 9/17 would help.
