Taylor Swift Fans Join Forces to Help Cancer Patient - Local News - Peoria, IL on Astini News

& A little boy is inspiring a group of teens to get more involved in their community, with the help of a country music star.&

Supporters of Colton Lee Cook put on the car wash outside of Goodfellas Pizza.

All proceeds will benefit the three year old Pekin native, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this month.

Colton and his family have been at the Saint Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, but because of Colton's fragile condition, they cannot return until their home renovations are complete.

Community members have been fundraising to help.

So far, they've raised $5,000 of the $10,000 needed, and support has grown both nationally and internationally.

"It's wonderful. It's a great feeling you get," said Jessica Everett, event organizer and friend of the Cook family. "You don't really realize how many people just have that much heart and have that much love that they give to a stranger. And the family is just overwhelmed with all the love and support for him."

The "Taylor Swift World Changers" teamed up with Colton's family and friends to put on the car wash.

The small group of Pekin young adults plan to do 13 service projects in honor of the Grammy award-winning singer Taylor Swift.

Their goal is to have Swift choose their final deed.

"She meets a ton of people, so there's probably something she notices that either our generation or people in general could use, something maybe weighing on her heart to select for us to do for our big 13th project," said Taylor Swift World Changers Member Kyle Garden.
