Kempf rushed for 73 yards on 11 carries and threw for 172 more and a touchdown on 16 of 24 passing. Campanella had 82 yards on 11 carries for the Hoyas, who gave Davidson its ninth loss in its last 10 season openers.

While Kempf and Campanella had the offense cruising, Georgetown's defense — which had six sacks — made it easier by winning the field position battle. Georgetown started six possessions in Davidson's territory and scored on all five of its trips in the red zone.

Robert McCabe had 11 tackles and Jeremy Moore 10 for the Hoyas.

Jonathan Carkhuff had a career-high 364 yards on 36 of 56 passing with two interceptions for Davidson.
