VH1 named Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" song of the summer. Was it a bad call? Maybe.

The ubiquitous pop hit won first place in the network's first Song Of The Summer competition. For 14 weeks, the channel tracked 70 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, the iTunes charts, Last.fm scrobbles, the YouTube music charts it's own Top 20 Video Countdown. After this kinda scientific approach they landed on Perry's tune.

But the song of the summer isn't about science. It's about feel. According to charts Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" should be at least No. 2 for the season. But it's just not a summer song. It's great but the vibe is all wrong. What had the right feel was LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" — it's as sweet as candy, addictive as crack and dumber than anything else.

But none of this season "contenders" really did it for me. I've got nothing against pop. There just wasn't a jam like "Crazy" or "Hey Ya" or DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "Summertime" or "Eye of the Tiger." Pushed to pick, I'd go with "The Edge of Glory" for its big fat Clarence Clemens sax solo (RIP big man).

Now that it's all over. What's your pick? Any of these any good? Anyone find a single great rock anthem or reggae jam this summer to compete with all the pop?
