Acer Aspire 5749 Notebook Pairs MeeGo with Intel Sandy Bridge CPU on Astini News

MeeGo powered notebooks have become a familiar sight in the last couple of months, but now Acer has upped the ante with the first such laptop to be powered by a second-generation Intel Core processor, also known as Sandy Bridge.

This new device is called the Aspire 5749 and was just listed online by the Amazon Germany website, which is currently offering the unit for 399.00 Euro (roughly $577 US).

For this much money users get a 15.6-inch laptop that includes a 1366x768 resolution HD panel and an Intel Core i3-2310M processor, which packs two processing cores with Hyper-Threading support.

The chip comes clocked at 2.1GHz, and also includes 3MB of Level 3 cache memory and an Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics core.

In addition, the Aspire 5749 is configured to feature 4GB of system memory (user upgradeable to 8GB), a 2.5-inch hard drive with a storage capacity of 500GB, and a DVD burner.

Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n, an HDMI video output, a number of USB ports, as well as a multi-format card reader. Users will also find a webcam on the specs list.

Including the 6-cell battery, that is standard for the Acer Aspire 5749, the notebook is estimated to have a battery life of roughly 5 hours and weights approximately 2.6Kg, while measuring 34mm in thickness.

As mentioned previously, the Aspire 5749 is available for purchase right now from Amazon.de, and is estimated to ship in 2 to 4 weeks.

Until recently, the MeeGo operating system was only used for powering entry-level netbooks, which were based on slow Intel Atom processors. Some of the most well-known MeeGo netbook models are the Asus Eee PC X101 and the Samsung N100. (via engadget)
